How to be a better bird feeder

When all the seed and suet cakes and other bird food used to feed wild birds in Oklahoma are added up for a year, it's thought to total more than $113 million!

Get the most out of your feeder by steering clear of filler grains, staging feeders at different heights, and regularly cleaning feeders and the ground directly under the feeders.

Also, know that most birds actually prefer to eat insects. It turns out that our oaks are full of hibernating insects all winter, as are their dead leaves, so the less we disturb them, the better for our birds.
